Since 1927, the Mid Atlantic Master Farmers Awards Program continues as America’s longest running and most prestigious agricultural honors program. A Master Farmer is one who is known for being a superb producer, a progressive business person, an excellent land steward and a proven servant-leader in the community.
The Master Farmer Award is co-sponsored by American Agriculturist (the successor to Pennsylvania Farmer Magazine) and the Cooperative Extension of the land grant universities in the 5 states represented in the program (Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia).
1. To promote and advance the agriculture industry in the participating states.
2. To provide meaningful scholarships to qualified applicants in the baccalaureate degree programs majoring in agriculture at the sponsoring land-grant universities in the participating states (Delaware, Maryland, new Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.)
The Association is led by a Board of Directors made up of no more than sixteen directors; six directors elected by the membership, the immediate past president, two directors at large (the editor of the American Agriculturist and a representative of the Agriculture Extension Service of the Pennsylvania State University) the current president, vice-president and the executive secretary/treasurer.
